Welcome to the introductory page for non-students interested in Law, Race, and Design: Examining the St. Louis Story. This interdisciplinary course is part of the Beyond Boundaries program at Washington University in St. Louis. It is taught by Professors John Inazu (Washington University School of Law and John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics) and Penina Laker (Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts). You can learn more about our hopes for this course in this video. Part of this experimental course involves interacting with a broader community, both in St. Louis and beyond. To this end, we welcome non-students to follow along, read the materials, and comment on the course blog. To follow the course, please sign up using the form at the bottom of the page. You can also find more detailed guidelines below. We look forward to learning with you!

Guidelines for Community Participation:
Most of the course materials are in the public domain and will be linked from our site. Some copyrighted readings will not be publicly accessible. A number of the course readings come from the book Ferguson’s Fault Lines. We encourage any of you who plan to follow the course to acquire this volume.
We will describe to you the course assignments as we make them available to the students. We encourage you to try the assignments yourselves. Unfortunately, due to time limitations, we are unable to comment on or otherwise evaluate non-student responses.
We encourage you to comment on blog entries alongside the students participating in this course. Because of student privacy and pedagogy, we are imposing two constraints on the comments. First, the students themselves will post under aliases that will mask their actual identities from public view. Second, we will require all comments to be approved prior to posting, and we reserve the right not to post comments that are uncivil or off-topic. Occasionally, we may ask you to edit a comment for clarity before posting.
We will provide regular reflections about experiences teaching the course under the Journal tab.
